Banking!
We learned so much when Rami's dad shared about what happens in a bank. It was great to see the children so curious and learning so much. Thank you!
Math games
We learned four new math games! Thank you so much for the parent volunteers. We learned 10 jumper, bump, 21 and salute! These are such great interesting and learning math games.
Below is one of the games we learned called Salute. You can play this at home with a normal pack of cards. Please ensure to have the number grid or a number line available to help your child.
What Is Salute? What Materials Do I Need? 3 people play the game. A pack of cards
Salute is a game that is simple in its materials and its directions! The game is played just like the name implies. Numeral cards are "saluted" to an opposing student. One player acts as the announcer of the sum while the other two players, who salute each other, are the addends. Students try to figure out which number they are holding. For materials all you need is a deck of numeral cards for every three students. If you don't have numeral cards then you can use a deck of playing cards. If you use playing cards then the jack becomes 11, queen becomes 12, kings become 0, and ace becomes 1.How to Play
- 2 players pick a card and hold it up by their forehead. They need to do this without sneaking a peek at the card they have.
- The third player adds these two cards together and says the sum aloud. If the player needs help to count they can use a number line or number grid. Also remind them to start with the bigger number and count on.
- Then the two players with the cards on their head work out what their own number. They do this by taking the sum and subtracting the number on the card of the other player. Again, please have the child use a number line or number grid to help them.
- When the players with the cards on their foreheads guess their cards, they check if they are correct by looking at the card.
- Then you rotate jobs.
Meteorologist
The children continue to just love science! This week we learned about meteorologists. We learned about the different weather tools including an anemometer, wind vane, rain gauge, thermometer and barometer. We also became meteorologists and made our own weather reports including weather condition, temperature, and wind speed.
